Audio Formats
|
An audio file format is a container format for storing audio
data on a computer system. The term is applied to both the
physical recording media and the recording formats of the
audio content – in computer science it is often limited to
the audio file format, but its wider use usually refers to
the physical method used to store the data. Music is recorded
and distributed using a variety of audio formats, some of
which store additional information.
MP3 Format - MP3 is an acronym for MPEG layer 3, which
is a compressed audio format. MP3 can compress a song by a
factor of 10 or 12 and still retain something close to CD
quality.
WAV Format - WAV File is the standard audio format
for storing music, sound bits, noises, and other such items
on your computer.
WMA Format - WMA is an audio file format developed
by Microsoft (www.microsoft.com), the maker of Windows Media
